Blog

I've been incredibly busy, and discovered I have neglected my art blog. Oh well, life happens some times. I've not done a lot on my 120 paintings project, but I still have tons of reference photos to work from so it will happen. Spring is here, and the rose garden is calling. It is time to clean and fertilize, so that's what I've been up to. I also just finished a colored pencil painting of a yellow rose, it's in my colored pencil collection if you care to take a look.

Happy Spring everyone!

It's been a while since I've been here, but I haven't been lazy! I always make jams and jellies for my family for Christmas, and that has finally passed. Whew!! Lots of work, but it's done now. Time to get back to my artwork. I uploaded a sunset study I did in October, it's in my 120 paintings gallery if you'd care to go take a look. I look forward to getting back to my 120 paintings project, and I have a new pencil drawing on the drawing board. Stay tuned!

Happy New Year to anyone reading, and may you prosper in 2013.

I've finally picked up my oils again! I blogged previously about learning a new process with oils, but that just has not panned out. I've found it will take a lot more time than I have right now. But I want to paint, and I love sunsets and skyscapes. This is my second try, the first one (along with this one) are in a new gallery I created on here. Go take a look at my 120 paintings section. Come back often, I hope to add here at least once per week.

Thank you for visiting!

I finally got this finished! Yay! My client has been very patient, and for that I am grateful. The second pic gave me fits. I didn't like the way it was coming together so I ended up doing it completely over again.

Now on to the next project!

I finished this rose finally. After I finished the flowers themselves, I decided I wanted a background. This created another issue. The colors I chose really showed the canvas hatching, and I didn't like it. Anyway, after much trial and error, this is the end result. This is also in my colored pencil gallery. I think I will pursue this colored pencil on gessoed canvas thing. It has the potential of creating colored pencil art that does not need to be framed under glass. Stay tuned!

I've been really busy this month, getting a colored pencil painting done for an art swap on WetCanvas.com. It's been really fun, it challenged me, and I did something I've always wanted to do. I can't post it before the reveal date on June 2, but as soon as we have the reveal, I'll put it here.

In the mean time, here's something else I tried. I had a canvas board I prepped for oil painting, but decided to see what would happen if I put colored pencil on it instead. Here is the result.

Hopefully this will be finished this week.

The second of the pair, finally getting some color. This is done on black Artagain paper, the drawing is done with white charcoal.

I actually got this pretty well finished. This pic is not a good representation of the colors, though. Now I have just a few final touches to do to this, and sign it. I also have it's partner drawn out and transferred to the black paper. I'll start on the base underpainting tonight.

I got redirected a bit. I started this colored pencil drawing a few months ago, then an acquaintance of mine decided she wanted it. It will ultimately be one of a pair. So right now instead of the new process I want to learn, I need to finish this!

Hubby and I took the buggy out last Saturday, got some great pics of the arizona desert in full bloom. I use these trips to gather pics for future painting inspiration.
